Halloween is just around the corner and you know what that means for the little town of Douglas... The 26th Annual Douglas Halloween Parade!!

This year was off to a turbulent start so I didn't get as much of a prompt, but that just meant more creativity for me! I wanted to go for a poster inspired by Art Nouveau and Art Deco so I came up with these two sketches. Rather than having the crowds be the center of attention in last year's poster, I wanted the spotlight to be shone on the Pumpkin King.

For this first sketch, I was excited about having the town in the background, Jack being abnormally tall and monstrous, and him holding the precious Douglas clock in his hands. I was going for lots of detail, and leaning a bit more towards the decadence of Art Nouveau.

The second sketch was a rushed one, I won't lie. The concept wasn't fully baked, but this is the one that ended up being picked! (much to my dismay at first) I was planning on having the moon and a star represent the memorial illustration for the founder and her son, later this ended up being changed to little ghosts.

Here's the final poster! Given the amount of time I think this went super smoothly and I'm just DELIGHTED with it.

Hopefully you like it too! And if you happen to be in Douglas around halloween time, definitely stick around for the parade. I'll be there, but good luck finding me in the crowd of 15,000 people! ;-)
