I did this illustration for my latest illustration class - through a very roundabout technique, we were tasked with creating the most "you" illustration possible. In the end, this is what I got! In the spirit of overdoing it, I added flowers, cherubs, a big puffy dress, sparkles, butterflies... anything I could to make my illustration as FULL as possible.

Wondering what this roundabout technique was? First we were asked to write a list of things that we are and a second list of adjectives that describe ourselves. Then, we took one word from each list which later became the name of our car. Our next task was to find a photo of a car, and make an advertisement for it. There were many more steps, but thats the diluted version. And this was over the course of 5 weeks.
But wait?? How did this car ad turn into an illustration with no cars in sight? I for one, was looking forward to drawing cars. But this "car ad" was actually a workbook ad! Illustrators can get into these (for lack of better term) catalogues where clients can shop through the pages looking for the perfect illustrator to hire for their project. The reason for this roundabout way, as my professor later told me, is that this was a fantastic way to create a piece that describes who you are and what you do best.
Also worth noting, I pinstriped my unicorn inspired by my Impala lowrider.
This was my old tagline, "Impress your friends, assert dominance". It's something I say jokingly quite often! Later this changed to "when too much is just enough".
